Sea freight is the process of
transporting cargo across the ocean on large cargo ships.
Cargo can be shipped either in the form
of a full-container-load (FCL), in which either a 20-footer or 40-footer
container is rented for the cargo to be loaded on to and have it delivered on
the ship; or in the form of less-than-container-load (LCL), in
which the cargo will be consolidated with other cargos to fill up a container.
Sea freight involves at least 2 sea ports
throughout its journey: port of origin (POL) is where the cargo is transported
to and then loaded onto the cargo ship, and port of destination (POD) is where
the cargo disembarks from the ship and will then be transported to its location
of destination.
